All European Union countries using the euro issue in 2012 a commemorative coin of €2 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of tickets and coins in euros.
The drawing at the center of the coin symbolizes the place acquired in ten years by the euro, which is now a full-fledged global actor, and its importance in everyday life, different aspects being described: citizens (represented by a family of four), trade (the boat), industry (the factory) and energy (the wind turbines). The drawing is the creation of Mr. Helmut Andexlinger, professional graphic designer at the Austrian Mint. The outer ring of the coin represents the twelve stars of the European flag.
An exception exists for Luxembourg where the law requires that the portrait of the Grand Duke appear on all the pieces, the portrait of the Grand Duke will therefore appear as a watermark in the middle of the piece. In the Netherlands, a similar law, requiring the head of state (the king or queen) to appear on all parts, has been amended to participate in this commemoration, this amendment is only valid for common emissions.
