Gian Lorenzo Bernini, born in 1598, was a versatile artist who worked as a sculptor, architect, painter, scenographer, playwright and artist.
He performed his outstanding artistic work in Rome, where he was appointed architect of Saint-Pierre. His extraordinary versatility was unique and he considered the three arts of architecture, sculpture and painting as a unique form of expression.
He became one of the greatest baroque artists and influenced European art for more than a century.
The piece shows the famous marble statue "the bust of Costanza Bonarelli" which is located in the National Museum of Bargello in Florence. It is one of the most beautiful and important works of art of the baroque era: the vitality of the woman is engraved in the marble and her mysterious view fascinates the spectator.
