Description:

The Academy is the philosophical school founded near Athens by Plato, made of gardens, porch and sculptures. (387 BC to 86 BC) It has an impressive library and is taught in several classrooms, research is also part of the intellectual activities. Gyms are also planned for physical activities. Aristotle also taught in this school, which some consider to be at the origin of modern universities.

 

The piece represents a portrait of Plato (profile). On the left: the words "2400 years since the foundation of the Plato Academy" and "Hellenic Republic" in the ancient Greek letter. On the right: "2013" and the monogram of the Greek Mint. In exergue, "Allah" (monogram of author G. Stamatopoulos).
