Il drapeau europeo, composé di un cercle di douze étoiles dorées su fond bleu, è adopté da il Conseil di l'Europe en 1955 puis repris da il Communautés européennes en 1985.
Il douze étoiles ne correspondent pas au nombre di États membres: elles symbolisent l'unité, l'harmonie e la solidarité. Il motivo reste inchangé malgré il élargissements successifs di l'Unione europea.
La série commune di 2015 celebra il trente ans di suo adoption da il institutions européennes. Il disegno commun place il drapeau al centro, entouré di figures humaines che évoquent la nascita di una Europe unie.
