Die « Ploughman Banknotes » appartiennent à die erste grande série von billets ausgegeben von der État libre von Irland à partir von 1929. Ihr surnom vient des Motiv représentant ein laboureur und sein attelage, image directement liée au monde agricole.
Diese série constitue ein jalon important in der Geschichte monétaire von der Irland indépendante, die cherche alors à développer seine propres symboles und références graphiques. Die billets sind restés célèbres für ihr iconographie originale.
L’Ausgabe von 2009 marque die 80 ans von ihr introduction und réinterprète dieser Erbe monétaire ancien. Elle crée ein lien direct zwischen der Geschichte des billet irlandais und die monnaie von collection contemporaine.
