Theme: 50th anniversary of Willy Brandt's Genuflection in Warsaw.
Description:
The national face was designed by Berlin artist Bodo Broschat. The motif shows the moment of the fall of the then German Chancellor, a gesture of humility before the memorial to the heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto. The composition impressively illustrates the reference to the ghetto uprising of 1943. The drawing is executed with an extremely fine relief technique and incorporates strong symbols: the seven-branched candelabra, the victims of the ghetto and the kneecap, about which Brandt later wrote in his memoirs: "On the abyss of German history and under the weight of millions of murdered people, I did what people do when language fails."

The European side corresponds to the common denomination side of the 2 euro circulation coin used from 2007 onwards. It shows a map of Europe without borders.
The technical parameters of the commemorative 2 euro coin correspond to those of the "normal" 2 euro circulation coin. The edge of the German 2 euro commemorative coin features the inscription:
"UNITY AND RIGHT AND FREEDOM" and a stylized federal eagle.
