LITHUANIA

Lithuanian Euro Coins

Lithuania, a Baltic country proud of its history, adopted the euro as its official currency in 2015. Ditching its old currency, the litas, Lithuania chose a distinctive motif for its new euro coins, symbolizing the nation's bravery and history.

All Lithuanian coins share a central image: the knight Vytis, a strong symbol of Lithuania. Vytis is depicted bravely brandishing a sword in his right hand and protecting his body with a shield adorned with a double cross in his left. The dynamic design is accentuated by the horse's beautifully rearing posture. At the bottom, the name of the country "LIETUVA" is clearly engraved, while the vintage is placed at the top right. Surrounding this scene, a ring of 12 stars recalls Lithuania's membership of the European Union. The texture of this ring varies from coin to coin: smooth for the 1 to 5 centime coins, horizontally striated for the 10 to 50 centime coins, and vertically striated for the 1 and 2 euro coins.

Beyond their simple monetary value, these coins tell a story, that of a country proudly anchored in its past while looking to the future. They reflect the Lithuanian identity within Europe.
