Description:
In Christianity, the Jubilee has been redefined over the centuries. It is a period of forgiveness, reconciliation and spiritual renewal. The Catholic Church has established the Jubilee year as a time of divine grace, when sins are forgiven, and the faithful are invited to reflect on their faith, their relationship with God and their commitments to others. The Jubilee is marked by celebrations, pilgrimages and a series of religious rites, often in the Vatican, where sacred doors are opened to symbolize access to divine mercy.
Each Jubilee is associated with a specific theme. The Holy Year Jubilee (or Jubilee Year) represents a special moment in the Christian liturgical calendar, celebrating humanity, forgiveness and reconciliation. The motif of the Holy Door, like that of St. Peter's Basilica, symbolizes access to this divine grace, and its opening enables believers to draw closer to God through prayer, penance and conversion. It is also an opportunity to reflect on solidarity, social justice and spiritual renewal.
The Jubilee of 2025 thus marks a unique opportunity for Christians around the world to reconcile, atone for their sins and renew their faith, while paying tribute to historical and spiritual elements of Christianity, such as the Holy Door, a powerful symbol of divine forgiveness.
At the center of the piece is a representation of the Holy Door in St. Peter's Basilica. At the top, the word "IUBILAEUM" is inscribed, while along the edge, a series of fish alternating between full and empty frames the Latin inscription, symbolizing Christianity. On the left is the year of issue "2025" and the "R" for the Roman mint. On the right are the country abbreviation "RI" and, at bottom right, the initials "CM" of the coin's designer, Claudia Momoni.
