Finland and the evolution of its Euro coins

Finland, a country located in Northern Europe, played a significant role in the adoption of the euro as a common currency. Since its entry into circulation on January 1, 2002, the euro has succeeded the Finnish markka as the official currency in Finland. The evolution of Finnish euro coins is characterized by unique designs featuring national and cultural symbols.

1 to 50 cent coins: The Finnish heraldic lion as seen on the Finnish coat of arms, i.e. crowned, brandishing a sword with the right forepaw, itself protected by a piece of armor, and haggling on a sword. On the left, the vintage. All surrounded by the 12 stars of the European flag. The engraving is by Heikki Häiväoja. The lion was already present on mark coins.

1 euro coin: Two swans in flight above a landscape of lake and hills. On the right, on a hill, the year of issue. The whole is surrounded by the 12 stars of the European flag on the outer ring. Engraving by Pertti Mäkinen.

2 euro coin: A lakka berry and flowers. Below, the year. All surrounded by the 12 stars of the European flag on the outer ring. The engraving is by Raimo Heino.

The designs on Finnish euro coins tell the country's story as an active member of the euro zone, highlighting its heritage while celebrating its own identity. These coins go beyond their monetary role as visual symbols of Finland's history, culture and achievements.

In this section, you'll find all the euro coins issued since Finland adopted the euro in 1999(BU, BE, 2 Euro Commemorative Finland, etc.)
