Slovak Euro Coins: Representations and Symbols
Every Slovak euro coin since 2009 has been a masterpiece of art, embodying the country's national identity and cultural richness. Here's a detailed exploration of the designs on these coins.
1, 2 and 5 cent coins: Mount Kriváň
These coins proudly feature Mount Kriváň, which rises to an altitude of 2,495 meters. Located in the High Tatras, the highest section of the Carpathian Mountains, Mount Kriváň is surmounted by the issuing country "SLOVENSKO" and the year. Just below, the Slovak coat of arms features a double cross. As with all euro coins, the 12 stars of the European flag frame the design.
10, 20 and 50 cent coins: Bratislava Castle
Illustrating Slovakia's historic grandeur, these coins depict Bratislava Castle, the President's official residence. Captured from a majestic perspective, the castle is overlooked by the national coat of arms to its left. The base of the coin is adorned with the country's name "SLOVENSKO", followed by the year. The whole is encircled by a ring bearing the 12 stars of the European flag. The engraving is the result of the meticulous work of Ján Černaj and Pavol Károly.
1 and 2 euro coins: Sacred symbols
At the heart of these coins is a double cross, paying homage to Slovakia's three patron saints: Benedict, Cyril and Methodius. The cross rests proudly on three hills representing the Tatras, Fatras and Mátra mountains. This powerful symbolism evokes the national coat of arms. On the right, the word "SLOVENSKO" stretches out, while the year is on the left. The coin's outer ring is adorned with 12 European stars. The design is by Ivan Řehák.
Each of these coins, through its detailed engravings, tells a story, revealing the beauty, history and spirituality of Slovakia.
