BU Slovakia 2026 Set - Milan Cortina Winter Olympics
Description:
The 2026 Winter Olympics mark a historic return of the event to Italy, twenty years after Turin 2006. Organized jointly by Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, they feature an innovative multi-site model spread across several regions of northern Italy, including Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige.
A sustainable, modern model
One of the main focuses of Milan-Cortina 2026 is sustainability. Unlike other editions, which have required major construction, these Games give priority to the use of existing or modernized infrastructures. Milan will mainly host the ice events (figure skating, short-track, ice hockey) as well as the opening ceremony, while Cortina will be the heart of the Alpine disciplines in the spectacular setting of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Flagship disciplines
The program will feature the emblematic sports of the Winter Games:
-
Alpine skiing
-
Biathlon
-
Cross-country skiing
-
Ski jumping
-
Nordic Combined
-
Snowboarding
-
Freestyle
-
Figure skating
-
Speed skating
-
Short-track
-
Bobsleigh, luge and skeleton
-
Ice hockey
-
Curling
These competitions will bring together the world's best athletes, in an atmosphere where Alpine tradition and technological innovation meet.
An international impact
Milan-Cortina 2026 aims to reinforce Italy's image as a great sporting nation and winter tourist destination. The expected spin-offs concern both the local economy and the promotion of winter sports among the younger generation.
The Games embody a balance between Olympic heritage, respect for the environment and modernity, in one of Europe's most spectacular natural settings.
