LUXEMBOURG

Luxembourg and its Euro Coins

Luxembourg, a small country in the heart of Western Europe, plays a significant role as a founding member of the European Union. When the euro was introduced as the official currency on January 1, 2002, it replaced the Luxembourg franc. Luxembourg euro coins are distinguished by unique designs featuring the image of their reigning monarch.

On the 1 centime to 2 euro coins, the effigy of Grand Duke Henri, facing right, is surrounded by the 12 stars of the European Union, the name of the issuing country "LËTZEBUERG" at the bottom and the year. The design was created by Yvette Gastauer-Claire.

These motifs symbolize Luxembourg as a sovereign nation and an active member of the European Union. The coins not only serve as a means of exchange, but also tell the story of the country, its royal heritage and its commitment to European cooperation.

In this section, you'll find all the euro coins issued since Luxembourg adopted the euro. They reflect the country's rich heritage and national identity.
