With the abdication of Queen Beatrix in favor of her son, the 1 and 2 euro coins in this series proudly feature S.M. King Willem-Alexander. His monogram, a symbol of royal identity and sovereignty, is engraved on the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins. The 1, 2 and 5 centime coins retain the royal coat of arms, testifying to the continuity and importance of the tradition.
