BU Netherlands 2024 "MH17
Description:
On July 17, at 3:18pm, the lives of thousands of people changed forever. Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, en route to Kuala Lumpur, was hit by a Russian missile over Ukrainian territory. The 298 people on board the plane, of 17 different nationalities, perished in the most horrific way imaginable. This news does not only affect fathers, mothers, spouses, children, grandchildren, grandparents, brothers and sisters, friends and family. The rest of the Netherlands and the world are also in mourning.
The flight MH17 disaster will take place 10 years ago, in 2024, but it is still relevant today. Relatives of the victims continue to fight for justice. Although steps have been taken, the pain and sadness will remain forever. The Day of the Mint 2024 box set is therefore dedicated to those who lost their innocent lives on July 17, 2014. We will never forget them.
Design
The Day of the Mint 2024 box set pays tribute to all the victims of that horrific day in 2014. Various images can be seen on the packaging, including those of the MH17 National Monument and images of the victims' arrival in the Netherlands. In addition to the eight Dutch euro coins, you'll also receive a medal. The obverse of the medal shows a man holding a flag: he is watching a plane arrive. This is one of the most famous photos of MH17, taken when the plane carrying the victims arrived. The text on the side reads "WE REMEMBER MH17 - 17 JULY 2014". The reverse shows flowers, with a sunflower in the middle. Sunflowers are also found at the National Monument. In the center of the flower is the word MH17.
