The drawing shows students holding a leaflet and a flag. It refers to the student demonstrations organized in Belgium in connection with the socio-cultural upheavals of May 1968. This large-scale event influenced Belgian national politics and successive government reforms 50 years ago.
The Utrecht mint mark, the caduceus of Mercury, appears on the left, as does the Belgian master mark, the coat of arms of the municipality of Herzele. The year of issue 2018 and the country code BE also appear on the left-hand side of the coin, as do the initials LL of Mr. Luc Luycx, who designed the coin.
An amphitheater appears in the background in reference to the students.
