Description:
The design features a portrait of Simone Veil, an icon in the fight for women's rights. Simone Veil, née Jacob, left us in June 2017 at the age of 89. A survivor of the Auschwitz camps, she became one of the most important players in the construction of Europe. She was the first elected President of the European Parliament from 1979 to 1982. She fought for the decriminalization of abortion, and the law that bears her name was passed in 1975. She was elected to the Académie française in 2008.
Her deportation number appears on her collar. The European Parliament is depicted in the background, showing important dates in her life, her name, the country of issue "RF", the year of issue "2018" and the mint mark.
