2 € commemorative coin France 2013 commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympic Games in 1884.
The inner part of the coin depicts Pierre de Coubertin's face as a young man. The stylized Olympic rings form the background of the piece. They serve as frames for silhouettes symbolizing Olympic sports. On the left are the issuing country ("RF") and the year ("2013"). At the top, "PIERRE DE COUBERTIN" is inscribed in a semicircle.
- The outer ring of the coin represents the twelve stars of the European flag.
Strongly influenced by Anglo-Saxon culture. Pierre de Coubertin was behind the introduction of sport into French schools. His real name was Pierre de Fredy de Courbertin, and he is best known as the founder of the modern Olympic Games in 1884. These world games are an opportunity for participating countries to challenge each other and their athletes in a spirit of peace and glorification of sport.
