Theme : 2500th anniversary of the Battle of Thermopylae
Description
The coin's outer ring features the 12 stars of the European Union. The coin's central field depicts an ancient Greek helmet. Inscribed along the inner edge are the words "2500 YEARS SINCE THE BATTLE OF THERMOPYLAE" and "HELLENIC REPUBLIC". The year of issue and a palmette (the mint mark of the Greek Mint) are also inscribed in the background. Visible at the bottom right of the helmet is the artist's monogram (George Stamatopoulos).
