2 Euro European Flag 2015

2 Euro Commemorative Coin Set for the 30th Anniversary of the Adoption of the European Flag

Commemorative 2 euro coin series for the 30th Anniversary of the Adoption of the European Flag

The series of 2 euro coins marking the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the European flag by the European Union is a collection issued by European Union countries using the euro currency at the time of issue in 2015.

It should be noted that Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican are not included among the issuing countries due to their non-membership of the European Union.

Description

The design for this series was selected through a competition. Projects were submitted between March 2 and 20, 2015. After a pre-selection from March 23 to 27, the final coin was chosen by European citizens between March 30 and May 9. The first coins were due to enter circulation on July 1, 2015. The winning design was announced on May 28, 2015, winning 30% of the vote.

The coin's central motif features the roughly drawn European flag, surrounded by twelve stylized silhouettes. In the top right-hand corner, the name of the issuing country is followed by the years 1985-2015. The outer ring of the coin features the twelve stars of the European flag.

This series of commemorative 2 euro coins uniquely celebrates the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the European flag, reflecting Europe's symbol of unity and diversity.
