The 2025 commemorative 2 Euro coin, designed by artist Carsten Wolff, highlights the "Saar loop". This sleek design captures the sinuous course of the Saar River, winding through a hilly, wooded landscape. The aerial view of the Saar loop illustrates this natural waterway framed by distant hills.
The center features the nationality designation "D" for Germany, the year "2025", and the workshop letter. The outer ring is adorned with the 12 stars of the European Union, and the European side of the coin features the design of the map of Europe without national borders, in use since 2007.
The edge of the coin bears the inscription "UNITY, LAW AND FREEDOM" accompanied by a stylized federal eagle in relief, as is the case with all German 2 euro coins. Technical specifications are identical to those of circulating 2 euro coins.
