5 euros Belgium 2023 "85 ans Spirou et Fantasio" in relief BU
It's great news indeed that Spirou and Fantasio are celebrating their 85th anniversary! This inseparable duo of reporters is a true pillar of Franco-Belgian comics, and has captivated generations of readers.
The Royal Mint of Belgium has paid tribute to Spirou and Fantasio by creating a commemorative 5 euro coin. The coin is available in two versions: embossed and colored. It's a great way to celebrate the anniversary of these iconic characters.
The Spirou et Fantasio series was originally created by French cartoonist Robert Velter, known by his pseudonym Rob-Vel. Later, the series was entrusted to other talented authors. Jijé added the character of Fantasio, and it was under the pen of André Franquin that the series really took off, with the addition of memorable characters such as the Marsupilami.
Spirou is an intelligent, inventive and serious character, who began his career as a bellboy. His red uniform with gold buttons is a distinctive trademark. Fantasio, meanwhile, is also a journalist, but is more cautious, clumsy and sometimes short-tempered. Together, accompanied by their faithful squirrel Spip, they fight criminals and have many adventures, particularly in the fictional town of Rommelgem.
Interestingly, Spirou and Fantasio also make regular appearances in the Guust comic book series, featuring the character Guust Flater, also created by André Franquin. This shows the richness of the Franco-Belgian comics universe and the links between different characters and series.
All in all, Spirou and Fantasio remain iconic figures in comics, and their 85th anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate the lasting legacy they have left in the world of comics.
