The tradition of himmeli in Lithuania, recently inscribed on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage, is deeply rooted in Lithuanian culture. These geometric ornaments, made from straws assembled into triangles and squares, decorate homes and symbolize, in ancient beliefs, the interaction between spirit and matter. Hanging a himmeli from the ceiling was thought to bring prosperity and harmony to the home. Today, this tradition lives on, evolving with craftsmen who sometimes adapt materials and designs. Workshops are regularly organized to pass on the art to younger generations, ensuring the preservation of this unique heritage. Himmeli are no longer just decorations, but a living symbol of Lithuanian culture, testifying to the importance of transmission and the link between past and present.
