Coincard 2 Euro Malta 2026 BU - City of Valletta
Description:
The 2 euro commemorative coin issued by the Republic of Malta in 2026 honors the historic city of Valletta, the emblematic capital city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The central motif features a detailed depiction of Valletta, located on the northeast coast of the island of Malta, on the Xiberras Peninsula, a geographical formation originally characterized by a plateau rising to around 60 meters at the Xiberras Mound, which gave its name to the peninsula. The peninsula is surrounded by two major natural harbours, Marsamxett Harbour to the north and Grand Harbour to the south, which have played a fundamental role in the country's maritime and strategic history.
At the eastern end of the peninsula stands Fort Saint-Elme, an emblematic defensive site, while the city opens out to the west through the City Gate, giving access to the Place des Tritons in Floriana. The upper part of the coin bears the inscription "Valletta" accompanied by the name of the issuing country, while the lower part shows the year of issue "2026" and the initials of the engraving artist.
Production run : 35,000 pieces.
