Description :
Theme: Samuel Beckett
The son of a wealthy Protestant family, Samuel Beckett spent his youth in Dublin. But it was in Paris - where he met James Joyce and avant-garde artists - that he spent most of his time. After his father's death, he wrote his first text, Murphy. During the war, he joined the Resistance and moved to Vaucluse, where he wrote his second novel, 'Watt', and invented the figure of the 'clochard' (tramp). He then returned to Paris, where he wrote novels such as "Premier amour" and "Molloy", as well as plays such as "Eleuthera". In 1953, during a performance of his play "Waiting for Godot", he gained worldwide renown. Samuel Beckett devoted the rest of his career to writing short plays, translating them and directing them. He wrote in French to limit the use of the language. His work, austere as an interior monologue, expresses the impossibility of living in the knowledge of the finitude of existence.
