Coin design:
In 2022 France renewed the national design of its €1 and €2 coins, twenty years after the introduction of euro cash. The new motif was created by Joaquin Jimenez.
The Tree of Union combines a stylised oak and olive tree, symbols of strength and peace. The design places these elements within a hexagon and marks a new stage in the visual identity of French euro coins.
Historical and cultural context:
French euro series continue the tradition of major republican symbols, notably Marianne, the Sower and the themes of liberty, equality and fraternity. Renewed designs preserve this link between modern coinage and the heritage of the Republic.
Mintage: 30,000,000 pieces.
