Belgium is celebrating the 2026 Ice Hockey World Cup with a 2.5-euro commemorative coin, issued specifically for this major international competition, which will be jointly hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands from August 15 to 30, 2026.
The games played in Belgium will take place in Wavre, while those in the Netherlands will be held in Amstelveen. This tournament particularly honors Belgium’s two national teams: the Red Lions for men and the Red Panthers for women, both of which have held prominent positions on the international stage for several years.
Designed by Iris Bruijns, the obverse of this coin features a male and a female hockey player from the Belgian national team. Graphic lines referencing the goal area of a hockey rink complete the design and reinforce the sporting nature of this issue.
The reverse features the face value of 2½ euros, the year 2026, and the various official marks of the Commissioner of Coins and the Royal Mint of the Netherlands.
