Belle Epreuve SAINT MARIN 2024 Gift Set

The first 2-euro commemorative coin honors the 530th anniversary of the death of Domenico Ghirlandaio, an eminent painter of the Italian Renaissance. The obverse features a detail of the Virgin Mary in prayer, taken from his work “The Adoration of the Shepherds,” a fresco located in the Sassetti Chapel of the Basilica of Santa Trinita in Florence. This coin, issued by the Republic of San Marino, bears the inscription “SAN MARINO GHIRLANDAIO,” the dates “1494–2024,” the letter “R” indicating the Mint of Rome, and the initials “VdS” of the artist Valérie de Seta. The design is surrounded by the twelve stars of the European Union.

The second 2-euro commemorative coin celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of the Rights of Citizens and the Fundamental Principles of the Legal System of San Marino. The obverse depicts an open book with the inscription “I DIRITTI DELLA PERSONA UMANA SONO INVIOLABILI” (Human rights are inviolable), symbolizing this historic declaration. It also features silhouettes of San Marino’s Statue of Liberty and the Palazzo Pubblico, along with the inscription “SAN MARINO,” the letter “R” for the Rome Mint, the year “2024,” and the initials “E.F. ” of the engraver Emanuele Ferretti. The twelve stars of the European Union surround the central design.
