Description
The Vatican State Mint is commemorating the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri with two numismatic issues: a bimetallic 2 euro coin and a rectangular silver 25 euro coin. The bimetallic 2 euro coin is issued in a double version (brilliant uncirculated and BE). In the coin's design, artist Patrizio Daniele reproduces Dante's face next to one of Florence's most famous monuments, the Palazzo Vecchio. Dante was born in Florence in 1265 and died in Ravenna in 1321, far from his beloved city. While in exile, he composed his greatest work, the Divine Comedy, thanks to which Dante is considered a universal author. Daniela Longo designed the rectangular 25 euro silver coin, colored in four hues. The artist places Dante's face in the coin's silver frame. The detail is taken from the famous fresco "Parnassus",
