Description

Coincard 2 euro BU Luxembourg 2025 - 75 years Schuman Declaration

Design description:

The inside of the coin features a symbolic composition celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, the founding act of European integration. At the heart of the coin, a hand holds out an olive branch, a universal symbol of peace, reconciliation and unity. This gesture embodies the spirit of peace and integration between the peoples of Europe, as intended by the declaration pronounced on May 9, 1950.

The Schuman Declaration, presented on May 9, 1950 by French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman, is considered the founding act of European integration. Against a backdrop of reconstruction after the Second World War, the initiative aimed to secure lasting peace in Europe by making war "not only unthinkable, but materially impossible". To achieve this, Schuman proposed placing the production of coal and steel - key resources for armaments - under a common supranational authority, starting with France and Germany, and then opening up to other European countries. This proposal gave rise in 1951 to the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), the first integrated European institution, and laid the foundations for what would later become the European Union. Every May 9 is now celebrated as Europe Day, in homage to this visionary declaration.

In the background, a network of dynamic lines suggests the growing links between the nations of Europe, illustrating both their interdependence and the idea of continental solidarity. This visual framework evokes a united Europe, woven together by cooperation and shared values.

The upper part of the coin bears the legend "SCHUMAN DECLARATION 09.05.1950 ", recalling the historic date of this founding declaration. On the right-hand side are the name of the issuing country, "Luxembourg", and the year of issue, "2025" . In tribute to the role of the Monnaie de Paris in the minting of this coin, the cornucopia symbol is discreetly integrated into the design, underlining numismatic expertise and tradition.
