For the year 2025, the Mint of Finland presents a commemorative coin celebrating state visits and their central role in international diplomatic relations. The coin features a stylized door, a symbol of openness, dialogue and cooperation between nations. It is behind this door that negotiations take place, relationships are built, and the major directions of the future are mapped out.
The obverse of the coin depicts this door with a glossy finish, contrasted by a rough outline. This artistic choice evokes the solemnity and protocol of official visits. The reverse, in mirror-inverted, shows the same door with a matt surface, while its outline, this time, is smooth and polished, illustrating the human, sometimes discreet, dimension of diplomacy.
The upper part of the coin features the official mark of the Mint of Finland, "FI", as well as the year of issue, 2025.
Finland has always attached great importance to state visits, which are key tools in its foreign policy. While centuries ago these visits often took the form of marriages between royal families to consolidate alliances or major political decisions, they have changed profoundly over time. After the First World War and the emergence of many new nation-states, diplomacy took on a more institutional form, without abandoning certain traditions.
Even today, official receptions, cultural events, state dinners and joint public appearances remain fundamental elements of these encounters, conveying mutual respect and collaboration.
This coin pays tribute to the continuity of Finnish diplomacy, its evolution through the ages, and the importance it places on peaceful, constructive exchange between states.
