The inner side of the coin features King Tomislav I, Croatia's first crowned sovereign. He is depicted on horseback, echoing the famous equestrian statue erected in Zagreb, a symbol of national unity and power. A member of the Trpimirović dynasty, Tomislav became Duke of Dalmatian Croatia around 910, and was proclaimed the first King of Croatia in 925, a title he retained until his death in 928.
His reign marked the territorial and political apogee of the medieval Croatian state, which was then experiencing its golden age. This 2025 commemorative coin pays tribute to his 1,100 years of royal history, underlining Tomislav I's importance in national and European memory.
On the upper left is the inscription "KRALJ TOMISLAV", recalling his status as founding king. The upper right features the name of the issuing country and the year of issue "2025" .
The outer ring of the coin features the twelve stars of the European flag, symbolizing Croatia's unity and membership of the European Union.
