Description:
This commemorative coin pays tribute to the period of Sede Vacante, a special moment in the life of the Catholic Church that stretches between the end of a pontificate and the election of a new pope. At the heart of the design is the coat of arms of Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, camerling of the Holy Roman Church, responsible for managing the affairs and property of the Holy See during this transitional phase. The coat of arms is surmounted by theombrellino and crossed keys, traditional symbols of pontifical authority during the interregnum. These elements illustrate the institutional continuity of the Vatican in the absence of a pontiff. The legend also features a dove, representing the Holy Spirit, invoked to guide the cardinals during the conclave to choose the future pope. With its meaningful iconography, this numismatic coin recalls the essential role of the camerlingue and commemorates one of the most solemn periods in Catholic tradition.
The outer ring is decorated with the twelve stars of the European flag.
