This artistic reference reinforces the link between the coin, Italian heritage and the memory of the saint. The inscription "SAN FRANCESCO D'ASSISI 1226-2026" at the top recalls both the year of his death and that of the commemorative issue. The lower part features the monogram "RI", representing the Italian Republic, and the letter "R", the mark of the Mint of Rome.
