The Elbe Philharmonic (Elbphilharmonie, nicknamed Elphi) is a symphony concert hall in Hamburg designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron. Like the Berlin Philharmonie, the Philharmonie de Paris and the Philharmonie Luxembourg, it is one of the largest and most acoustically efficient halls designed for symphonic music. The Elbe Philharmonic was built on the site of a former cocoa bean warehouse named Kaispeicher, constructed between 1963 and 1966 in the port of Hamburg. The trapezoidal warehouse is topped by a concrete structure with a glass façade, housing two halls with a capacity of 2,150 (the Großer Saal, for symphonic concerts) and 550 seats
