Belgium 2014 €2 Coincard – Red Cross
Issue overview:
The Belgian Red Cross was founded in 1864, in the wake of the humanitarian movement inspired by Henry Dunant and the first Geneva Convention. It was among the earliest national societies created to provide organised assistance to wounded soldiers under principles of neutrality and humanity.
Over time, its work expanded far beyond wartime relief to include emergency response, support for victims, blood donation, first-aid training, social assistance and international humanitarian action.
The 2014 issue marks the organisation’s 150th anniversary and uses one of the world’s most recognisable humanitarian symbols as the central theme.
