Description

Description:

Jan van Eyck (c. 1390 - 1441) can unquestionably be called a pioneer. His innovative brushstrokes and translucent oil painting technique produced breathtaking results. The realism of his works, his sense of detail, the perfection of his compositions and his mastery of color amazed the world. A revered official painter at the court of Philip the Good, he was also one of the first to sign his paintings, which was highly unusual for the time.

Little is known about Van Eyck's life, but more about his work, even though only around twenty paintings have survived. But what paintings! His famous altarpiece "The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb" is world-famous. Exhibited for six centuries in St. Bavo's Cathedral in Ghent, it recently underwent a remarkable restoration!

This new piece is a finely detailed reproduction of "The Man in the Red Turban", a work exhibited at the National Gallery in London, and considered by many to be a self-portrait by Van Eyck. A painter's palette and brushes, the master's original signature and his name complete the composition.
