Never before has an entire profession been honored with a commemorative coin from Belgian numismatics! In recognition of the exceptional efforts made during the covid pandemic, the Royal Mint of Belgium is issuing a unique 2 euro coin.

An ode to care
Before March 2020, words like "Covid Safe Ticket" (CST) and corona barometer didn't exist, quarantine and self-isolation were something very exotic, and mouth masks were reserved for medical use! What a difference that makes now, two years later...

In Belgium, figures from early April 2022 indicate that, since March 2020, there have been around 3.9 million coronary infections, including around 116,700 hospitalizations and +/- 30,800 deaths. Employees in the healthcare sector are of considerable importance in these complicated times. They work hard every day to provide good care, even during peak periods, and are therefore an incredible support to us all.

Special coincard for caregivers
The BU coincard version is a real favorite with all caregivers. The packaging reflects this with a graphic representation of caring hands and hearts.

On the coin itself, the text "DANKE - MERCI - DANK U" appears on the left. Next to it, healthcare elements such as a stethoscope, heart monitor, syringe, wheelchair symbol and mortar are depicted.
On the right, a member of staff wearing a mouth mask, next to which is the initials "LL" (designer Luc Luycx's initials). Below, the year 2022, the country code BE, the Mint Commissioner's difference (coat-of-arms of the municipality of Herzele) and the Royal Netherlands Mint's difference (Mercury's staff).
