2 Euro Belle Epreuve Belgium 2024 -Presidency of the European Union
Description:
Belgium, presiding over the Council of the European Union from January to June 2024, celebrates this event with a 2 euro coin specially designed by the Royal Mint of Belgium. This presidency, part of a six-month cycle assigned alternately to EU member states, is part of the "Trios", an 18-month collaboration between three successive presidencies. At present, Belgium is working closely with Spain, the outgoing president, and Hungary, the next in order.
During its term of office, Belgium will focus on major issues such as security, social policies, ecological transition and economic growth. It's also a crucial time to lay the foundations for the EU's strategic agenda for 2024-2029, an opportune moment to influence the Union's future directions.
The commemorative 2 euro coin, issued to mark this historic moment, features a unique design symbolizing natural leadership. At bottom left, it features the inscription "BELGIAN PRESIDENCY OF THE COUNCIL OF THE EU 2024". In the center, 27 swallows representing the 27 EU member states surround the country code "BE". These birds, known for their synchronized movement and group spirit, embody qualities such as mutual aid, hard work and loyalty. On the left are the initials "IB" of Iris Bruijns, the coin's creator, accompanied at the bottom by the mint master's mark (an Erlenmeyer flask) and that of the Royal Dutch Mint (the caduceus of Mercury).
