2 Euro commemorative Finland 2021 100 years of Aland autonomy
Description:
Åland is an autonomous, demilitarized, Swedish-speaking part of Finland. The Finnish Parliament approved the Åland Autonomy Act in the spring of 1920, but the final solution was found through arbitration by the League of Nations in 1921. Finland retained sovereignty over Åland, but Åland was granted autonomy and guarantees for the Swedish language and local culture and customs.
The reverse of the coin depicts an archipelagic landscape: a shipping lane with sea marks, the prow of a ship and a hand holding a compass. The field along the upper edge features the text: ÅLANDS SJÄLVSTYRELSE 100 ÅR, and along the lower edge:: AHVENANMAAN ITSEHALLINTO 100 VUOTTA.
The centenary of Åland's autonomy is celebrated for a full year, starting on June 9, 2021. The jubilee year culminates on June 9, 2022, the centenary of the first meeting of the Åland County Council in 1922.
