Theme : 125th Anniversary of the birth of Frans Eemil Sillanpää
Description:
Born in 1888, Frans Eemil Sillanpää was a Finnish writer, novelist and short-story writer, a proponent of psychological neo-realism. His main novel, Sainte Misère (1919), evokes the Finnish Civil War. His success at the time was due to his characters, drawn from the common folk of rural Finland: maids, sharecroppers and small landowners. One of his poems, written in 1939, was set to music in 1940 as a patriotic song, Chant de marche de Sillanpää (Sillanpään marssilaulu).
