The Summer Olympics to be held in Paris in 2024 are represented by this coin, with the year 2021 officially marking the start of the countdown to the Paris Games. The handover of the Olympic flag at the closing ceremony of the previous Games marks the start of a new era of Games in France. This handover will be depicted in the series. 2021 is also the first year of a quadrilogy in which sport and its values will be highlighted. To mark the countdown to the launch of the Games, the Monnaie de Paris will issue a commemorative €2 coin for four years from 2021. These coins will highlight the Olympic Games through famous French numismatic figures.
This first coin features a racing Marianne, overlooking the Games' athletics stadium. The Eiffel Tower is also depicted in the background, symbolizing the city of Paris.
