Drawing description:
Maria Callas, whose full name was Maria Anna Cecilia Sofia Kalogeropoulos, was a famous opera singer of Greek origin, born on December 2, 1923 in New York and died on September 16, 1977 in Paris. She is considered one of the greatest sopranos of the 20th century.
Callas enjoyed an exceptional career on international stages, notably at La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Royal Opera House in London. She was admired for her powerful voice, her vocal technique and her talent as an actress on stage. Callas sang many iconic operatic roles, including Violetta in Verdi's "La Traviata", Norma in Bellini's "Norma" and Tosca in Puccini's "Tosca".
At the height of her career in the 1950s and early 1960s, Maria Callas generated unprecedented excitement in the opera world. However, her personal life was marked by tumultuous relationships, notably with the famous Greek tycoon Aristotle Onassis. She also experienced health problems and professional difficulties that eventually led to her retirement from the stage in the 1960s.
Despite her relatively short career, Maria Callas left an indelible mark on the world of opera. Her musical legacy lives on in her recordings, which continue to be enjoyed by opera lovers the world over. She remains an icon of classical music and an essential reference for many generations of opera singers.
