2 Euro Greece 2023 - 150th anniversary of the birth of Constantin Carathéodory
Description:
Constantin Carathéodory was a Greek mathematician of notable importance in the early 20th century. Born in 1873 and died in 1950, he made important contributions in several fields of mathematics, including the theory of real functions and thermodynamics. Endowed with a unique vision and an ability to tackle complex problems in innovative ways, Carathéodory left a lasting legacy in the world of mathematics, inspiring generations of researchers with his prolific work.
At the heart of this memorable piece, the solemn face of Greek mathematician Constantin Carathéodory proudly occupies the space, gazing to the left. Just above his shoulder, subtly engraved, we find the signature of artist G. Stamatopoulos, attesting to his meticulous work.
At the bottom, precisely engraved, the name of the issuing nation stands out: EΛΛHNIKH ΔHMOKPATIA, which translates as "HELLENIC REPUBLIC". This statement firmly anchors the coin in its national heritage.
At 3 o'clock, a delicate Greek flower, the anthemion, stands out, a strong symbol of Greek cultural heritage, and also recognized as the mark of the Athens Monetary Workshop.
The upper part of the coin proudly displays the legend "ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΟY ΚΑΡΑΘΕΟΔΩΡΗ 1873-1950", paying tribute to the period of the famous mathematician's life.
