Description:
The commemorative coin depicts Dante with an open book in his left hand( The Divine Comedy) and mountainous Purgatory at the back. Illustrated by the painter Domenico di Michelino (1417-1491) in the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore.
In the center of the coin, the monogram of the Italian Republic "RI"; on the right, the inscription "R", identifying Rome, and the inscription "SP", designer Silvia Petrassi's initial, as well as the dates "1265 2015" for the 750th anniversary of Dante Alighieri's birth.
