Description:
The ancient corps of the King's Carabinieri was founded in Turin by King Victor-Emmanuel I of Sardinia with letters patent dated July 13, 1814, with the dual function of defending the state.It was then placed in the front rank compared to other army corps and police bodies, with special tasks and prerogatives.
The Carabinieri were endowed with a special turquoise uniform, decorated with silver brandebourgs on the collar and facings, scarlet lapels on the sides of the uniform, white fringed epaulettes for mounted Carabinieri, sky blue for foot Carabinieri and the characteristic two-pointed hat colloquially known as the lucerna. This uniform is still in use today, and is worn on solemn occasions.
As a military unit, some components are equipped with heavy equipment, such as armor and anti-tank weapons. These components are deployed in all Italian armed forces operations, from Somalia to Iraq and Kosovo.
