Description:
Coincard 2 euro Latvia 2019 Rising Sun
The sun design created by artist Ansis Cirlis in 1915 was first reproduced in Latvian Rifle Battalion rolls and in the flag of the 1st Latvian Rifle Battalion of Daugavgriva. In 1917, the artist created an autonomous Latvian symbol (an earth on which is represented a rising sun with broken rays).
This was the beginning of one of the key elements of the Latvian national coat of arms. The theme of the rising sun is used several times by Ans Cirlis in his work, including on the first Latvian state stamp and interior decorations (for example, in the hall of Riga Castle).
