Design description:
The central part of this 2 euro coin, issued in 2024, offers a visual tribute to the 175th anniversary of the death of Grand Duke William II. This significant illustration juxtaposes two important figures: on the right, Grand Duke Henri is depicted in half-profile, symbolizing the continuity and heritage of the Luxembourg monarchy. On the left, a captivating image of Grand Duke William II mounted on a horse catches the eye, evoking strength and historical leadership.
On the left-hand side of the coin, the inscription "Guillaume II 1792 - 1843" pays tribute to the period of the Grand Duke's life, recalling his influence and role in Luxembourg's history. The upper part is marked with the name of the issuing country, "Luxembourg", recognizing the national importance of this souvenir. At the bottom, the year of issue, "2024", is engraved, anchoring the coin in the present while celebrating the past.
The presence of the cornucopia on the coin is a distinctive feature, signifying that the Monnaie de Paris is responsible for its minting.
