The fourth in a series of seven dedicated to the prehistoric sites of the Maltese islands, inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The reverse of the coin shows the common 2 euro side. The obverse (national side), designed by Noel Galea Bason, shows a depiction of the Ta'aġrat temples. The Ta' Ħaġrat temples at Mġarr date from around 3,600 - 3,000 BC.
The site was reported to Sir Temi Zammit in 1916 and the first excavations took place in 1923. The temple is one of the best preserved in Malta. Its imposing portal, and the three steps leading up to it, are the main features of the room's design.
