Description:
On the inner part of the coin, a drawing depicts the Maltese bee, a species endemic to the island, characterized by its black coloration. Morphologically close to the Sicilian and Tellian bees, these three subspecies share a genetic proximity. This similarity is explained by the colonization of Malta and Sicily by African bees during the Ice Age, at a time when Mediterranean sea levels were much lower. The motif also includes a flower being pollinated by a bee, as well as hive cells. The name of the issuing country and the year "2024" are inscribed on the sides, with the initials of the engraving artist at the bottom.
The outer ring of the coin is decorated with the twelve stars of the European Union flag.
