Born in Monaco on March 14, 1958, Albert Alexandre Louis Pierre Grimaldi, better known as Albert II, became Sovereign Prince of Monaco in April 2005, succeeding his father, Prince Rainier III. Raised in the opulence of the Monegasque court and the media attention due to his mother, Hollywood icon Grace Kelly, Albert benefited from a well-rounded education that included studies at Amherst College in the United States, where he earned a degree in political science.
